How it chooses
Every name in the list was written for this tool and carries the things it suits: a coat colour, a character, a size and a style. The coat counts most, then the character, then size and style, so a name that matches the colour and the character always comes before one that only matches the size. A boy never gets a name that only suits a girl, and the other way round; Not sure yet gets names that suit either, for the weeks before you are sure.
A few things worth knowing before you choose
- Short names are easier to say quietly. Hamsters are awake in the evening and at night, so most of the time you use the name, the rest of the house will be winding down.
- Wait a day or two if you can. A hamster’s character shows once it has settled in — the shy one and the bossy one are not always the ones you expect in the shop.
